Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s upcoming film Lockdown stars Soham Chakraborty, Srabanti Chatterjee, Om Sahani, Adrit Roy, Manali Manisha Dey and Rajnandini Paul. A recently released trailer for the film suggests that the story has three parallel narratives that come to a meeting point at the end.
The visuals don’t reveal how the central theme of the pandemic-induced lockdown builds up the narratives, but all the featured characters seem to be affected by it.
In the beginning of the trailer, Chakraborty's character goes to Paul’s place as a sanitation worker; however, we soon realize he has agreed to commit a crime because of his urgent need for money for his sister’s treatment.
While the lockdown seems to have magnified Chakraborty’s financial crisis, being forced to stay indoors has caused different challenges in Dey’s marital relationship with Sahani. To retain curiosity, the narratives of Dey and Chakraborty have been juxtaposed at a crucial point of the trailer, when the pregnant Dey is admitted to a nursing home for delivery and Chakraborty seems to be at his wit’s end in his attempt to prepare for his sister's chemotherapy.
Roy, in the third narrative, plays a character who visits Madhubala, a prostitute, played by Chatterjee. The snippets of his conversations with Madhubala suggest that Roy has an interesting encounter with the woman, who engages in playful talk and even expresses herself boldly.
The trailer carries the essence of Mukherjee’s signature dramatic treatment and is filled with romantic and tragic quotients as well. How the director has brought all the characters to a meeting point in his attempt to establish the consequences of a lockdown on common people will be revealed in the film.
