Joyeeta Roy and Prateek Kumar Mishra are set to begin filming a docudrama on India's legendary hockey player, Dhyan Chand.

Called the 'wizard of hockey', Dhyan Chand helped the Indian team to three gold medals in field hockey in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games.

The makers' home banner, Signature 24 Productions, plans to release the poster for the docu-feature on the 117th birth anniversary of the hockey star on 29 August. The poster release will be done digitally.

The film will be a documentary feature on Dhyan Chand's early life. The initial plan was to shoot the docudrama in 2020 and release it on 29 August 2020. But the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic derailed that plan.

Filmmaker Neil Dasgupta will the helm the docudrama. Signature 24 Productions plans to release the film on 3 December this year, the 42nd death anniversary of the stalwart.

Roy and Mishra, who co-own Signature 24 Productions, were also at the head of a 2019 social media campaign to honour the late hockey legend with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
