SonyLIV has ventured into the Marathi sphere with the show Shantit Kranti, which had its premiere today. Lalit Prabhakar, who plays one of the lead characters, believes that the Marathi entertainment industry will benefit from the move.

“This is a big thing for the Marathi and regional industry,” he said in a conversation. “It is necessary that such platforms keep coming up. Sony LIV has such a big platform and has given us shows like Scam 1992, Gullak and Maharani. They have already brought different types of content and gained the audience’s trust. So even people are expecting good things from them. In such times, SonyLIV trusting us with this show is a big deal for us. This means they have seen something good in our content.”

He added, “This is good news for the Marathi industry because there are very few platforms for Marathi web-series."

Directed by Sarang Sathaye and Paula McGlynn, Shantit Kranti is about three friends, played by Prabhakar, Abhay Mahajan and Alok Rajwade, and their quest to find solutions to their problems during their road trip.

Asked about the USP of the show, Prabhakar said, “It’s friendship. There won’t be a single person who doesn’t have friends. It also has a nostalgia element. This show might encourage people to get in touch with friends with whom they have lost touch because of their hectic schedule.”
