Nithin Lukose's Paka (River Of Blood) has earned plaudits even before it has been released for public viewing.
The script received praise at the NFDC Work In Progress Lab Awards and the backing of Anurag Kashyap and Raj Rachakonda. The film will have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which is being held from 9 to 18 September.
The trailer for the film helps explain why it has received so much attention. Dramatic, taut and filled with stunning visuals, the trailer is arresting from the get-go.
The story is of a dynastic feud between two families in a village that has gone on for generations. It begins with a convict returning to the village and meeting an old man. It is easy to surmise that his imprisonment was the result of the never-ending conflict between the families.
The feud has now been inherited by the current generation, which wants to bury the hatchet. However, when a murder occurs, things hot up again. The tension between tradition, relationships and the politics it wreaks on the community around it makes for an intense watch.
The trailer is also visually gripping with its dramatic views of the horizon, shaded lights and sudden action shots. Moreover, it manages to keep the reason and origin of the feud completely secretive, adding to its mystery.
Paka (River Of Blood) features Basil Poulose, Vinitha Koshy, Jose Kizhakkan, Nithin George, Atul John and Joseph Manickal. Check out the trailer and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
