Lucifer likely to be remade as eight-episode Hindi web-series: Prithviraj

The actor-filmmaker had originally planned to make the Malayalam film as a three-part mini-series.

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has revealed that discussions have been initiated to make his Malayalam directorial debut film Lucifer (2019), which starred Mohanlal, into an eight-episode Hindi web-series. He opened up about the plan in an interview with Film Companion.

The film, a political thriller, saw Mohanlal in a character called Stephen Nedumpally. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, the film also featured Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith and Manju Warrier.

At the box office, Lucifer minted over Rs200 crore, emerging as the highest-grossing Malayalam film.

Interestingly, Prithviraj had originally planned to make Lucifer a three-part mini-series. However, the plan didn’t materialize and he went ahead and made it into a feature film.

Prithviraj said: “Lucifer, the film itself, was initially thought of as a series. There are still discussions about doing Lucifer as an eight-episode series in Hindi. When we first thought of Lucifer, we knew the arc of the story from the beginning of the first part to the end of the third part. We had plans to make it as a streaming series. Eventually, we kind of deviated towards making a feature film out of the first part.”

He also clarified that the plan to make Lucifer as a trilogy was always on.

He also confirmed that he might most likely direct Lucifer as a web-series in Hindi.

“Discussions are on and the challenge for me is to find the time. I’m happy with somebody else doing it (directing) but they’re not,” he said, adding that Mohanlal may or may not star in the Hindi version.
