Shershaah song 'JaiHind Ki Senaa': Visually captivating but underwhelming as an anthem

Composed and sung by Vikram Montrose, the song features lyrics by Manoj Muntashir.

The song JaiHindi Ki Senaa, composed and sung by Vikram Montrose, highlights the dedication that defined the late Param Vir Chakra winner Captain Vikram Batra, who is played by Sidharth Malhotra in Shershaah.

The film, directed by Vishnu Varadhan, is set to be released on 13 August on Amazon Prime.

The visuals see the young Vikram Batra's transformation into the feared 'Shershaah' on the battlefield. With a montage that captures the determination of the Indian army, the visuals are rousing. Malhotra is also dashing.

The song, by Vikram Montrose, is quite another matter. While its pitch and aggressive tone are certainly infectious, it lacks the addictive rhythmic quality that is expected of such anthemic compositions. The song begins with the Sanskrit shloka 'Svadharme Nidhanam Shreyah' which means to follow one's own path is far better than to follow the directions of anyone else.

The composition matches the visuals in pitch and tempo. The percussion works like the battle drums, in tandem with the march, and is captivating. However, Manoj Muntashir's lyrics are a little too bombastic. Montrose's voice is offbeat but suits the composition. However, the overall result does not leave a lasting impact.

Check out the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
