Punjabi movie Tunka Tunka sees good response, all eyes on Puaada

The motivational sports film stars Hardeep Grewal, who has also written the screenplay and produced the project.

The Punjabi language feature Tunka Tunka became the first such film to be released in theatres on 5 August after the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie has seen a good opening in India and overseas, with audiences flocking to cinema halls to watch the film.

Directed by Garry Khatrao, the film stars singer Hardeep Grewal, who has written and produced the project as well. The story of an aspiring cyclist who has to face insurmountable odds, Tunka Tunka is a motivational movie.

Clearly excited by the response the film has been garnering, the first-time actor shared pictures on Facebook of houseful signs for his film in Canada and the USA.

Although it remains to be seen how much business the sports movie will end up doing, it has had a strong beginning, which is a good sign for theatre owners whose businesses have suffered severely since the pandemic.

The Punjabi romantic comedy Puaada starring Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa is set to be released on 12 August and the industry is hopeful that audiences are ready to get back to watching movies in theatres.
