The fourth and final edition of the Rising Gardens Film Festival, whose theme is 'Moving Mountains: Women and Solidarities', will be held virtually from 16–19 April.
Organized by One Billion Rising South Asia, Sangat and Kriti Film Club, the festival has been held over four weekends in four months from January to April, with four themes.
Speaking about the selection of films, curator Reena Mohan said, “The ten films playing this April on the theme Moving Mountains: Women and Solidarities celebrate environmental activism. They examine the fragile state of the world’s natural resources and look at the many ways in which women connect with and negotiate the politics of domination in a bid to protect nature.”
In Priya Thuvassery's Coral Woman, a painter turns activist to save coral reefs. A vulnerable pheasant is protected against the backdrop of extreme socio-political pressures in Munmun Dhalaria's short documentary The Jujurana’s Kingdom.
In the films Bamboo Ballads and Saving Mr Green, decisive steps are taken by schoolgirls in Kerala and Delhi, respectively, to save nature while women become frontline fighters in the Peruvian Andes in the documentary Anay Kachi: The Salt Workers Of The Peruvian Andes, in Nepal in the short fiction Raasaleela, in Pakistan in the documentary Two Steps Forward, and in large parts of India in the documentaries Aikya, Narmada: A Valley Rises, and Thengapalli.
The films are being screened virtually and are free to view.
