Ivan Ayr’s eagerly anticipated second feature film Meel Patthar (2021) makes its way to Netflix on 7 May. The first trailer of the award-winning film, which was premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last year, sees Suvinder Vicky as a grieving trucker, Ghalib, who has covered more than 500,000 km over the course of his life on the road.

The trailer opens as Ghalib takes shelter from the rain, recalling a dark moment – the recent suicide of his wife. The ageing Punjabi trucker has much to contemplate. His body is giving way, his mind is troubled and there is a younger man he must train as his replacement.

Ghalib fights the good fight but things finally come to a head and he can run away no further. Lakshvir Saran plays the younger man who Ghalib has to mentor and is asked to take the blame when things go awry.

Co-written by Ayr and Neel Mani Kant, Meel Patthar follows Chaitanya Tamhane’s The Disciple (2021) as it makes its digital premiere on Netflix.
