Shooting has been completed for Aparna Sen’s The Rapist (2021), starring Konkona Sensharma, Arjun Rampal and Tanmay Dhanania in New Delhi.

The feature film, co-produced by Applause Entertainment and Quest Films, is currently in the post-production stage.

The announcement was shared by the makers and the film's cast on Wednesday. Applause Entertainment, which previously backed web-series such as Criminal Justice, Hostages and Scam 1992, is producing its first feature film.

Meanwhile, leading man Rampal thanked filmmaker Aparna Sen for her vision, clarity and passion. “It’s been intense and so fulfilling this journey as an actor (sic),” he said.

Dhanania, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, revealed some key people who are part of the film. He shared photos with filmmaker-turned-actress Gitanjali Rao, actor Chetan Sharma and writer Hussain Haidry who wrote the dialogues of The Rapist.

The Rapist, which went on the floor in March, was announced by the makers as a “hard-hitting drama that examines how society is responsible for producing rapists”. The film focuses on the trauma experienced by a survivor and how she deals with it.

The film is expected to be released this year, though it is uncertain whether it will be released theatrically or digitally.
