As many as 45 junior artistes who are to appear in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Ram Setu have tested positive for COVID-19. They were part of a cohort of 100 that was supposed to shoot for the film at Madh Island, Mumbai from today.

BN Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), told Cinestaan that the 100 junior artistes had been tested before the commencement of the shoot. “They took a pre-test, which is taken before people are brought on the sets. So 45 of them turned out to be COVID-19 positive. The shoot has been stalled as even the hero [Akshay Kumar] has tested positive,” he said.

Akshay informed fans about his COVID-19 positive result on Sunday morning in a tweet and said that he was under home quarantine. But today morning, he was shifted to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

The actor shared the news on Twitter, saying, “Thank you everyone for all your warm wishes and prayers. They seem to be working. I am doing fine, but as a precautionary measure under medical advice, I have been hospitalized. I hope to be back home soon. Take care.”
