R Madhavan's directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect tells the extraordinary tale of a man with an extraordinary mind who was wronged by his own nation. The trailer for rocket scientist S Nambi Narayanan's biopic depicts his rise and infamous implication in an espionage scandal.
The trailer begins with Narayanan (Madhavan) being interviewed by superstar Shah Rukh Khan. We then see the scientist in his salad days when his genius lead him to India's national space agency, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Despite his diligent efforts to create indigenous rockets to end India's reliance on projectiles manufactured by France and the USA, he eventually finds himself labelled a traitor and beaten mercilessly in police custody.
The trailer is well cut and induces curiousity. Madhavan looks perfect in the role. The film is his passion project and the actor-turned-filmmmaker seems to have done his homework well. The only gripe is that the VFX doesn't match international standards, but this can be easily overlooked, given that it's not the main focus of the story.
Rocketry has been shot in Tamil, English and Hindi and will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, English, Malayalam and Kannada. Interestingly, the English trailer, which differs greatly from those of other versions, focuses more on his struggles to acquire rocket technology from Russia and France.
The film has been produced by Tricolour Films & Varghese Moolan Pictures.
