Director Shankar and Lyca Productions, involved in the making of Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (2021), submitted to the Madras high court yesterday that they have been unable to reach an amicable agreement on the film.
The Press Trust of India news agency reported that senior counsel for Shankar told the bench of chief justice Sanjib Banerjee and justice Senthil Ramamoorthy that the parties had failed to come to an amicable solution to complete the film.
The case has been filed over the long delay in the making of Indian 2, which stars Kamal Haasan and is directed by Shankar and was announced back in November 2018. Lyca, which is producing the film, had moved the court demanding an injunction on Shankar taking up any other project before completing Indian 2.
On 22 April, the court had directed both parties to see if they could come to an agreement on their own. Senior counsel PS Raman informed the court that the attempt had failed. While Shankar was willing to offer bulk dates for the film in June, and Kamal Haasan agreed, Lyca insisted the director sign a bond not to take up any other project till Indian 2 was completed.
Shankar has recently announced the Hindi remake of his film Anniyan (2005) with Ranveer Singh in the lead. The director has also teamed up with actor Ram Charan for a 'pan-Indian' project.
The high court posted the matter for further hearing after the summer vacation.
