FTII alumnus Abhinav Thakur to direct investigative thriller Backwaters

The film is based on the tragic true story of Rahul Raju, a seven-year-old from Alappuzha, who went missing and was never found.

The first look of the investigative thriller Backwaters has been unveiled. The Hindi-language film is based on the tragic true story of Rahul Raju, a seven-year-old from Alappuzha, Kerala who went missing and was never found.

Backwaters will be directed by Film and Television Institute of India alumnus Abhinav Thakur who has helmed the short films Rangmanch and Yatharth. Delhi theatre actor Sartaazh Khari will essay the role of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer probing the case while United Kingdom model Neeta Paryani will play a fact-finding journalist conducting a simultaneous investigation.

The film, which is being produced by Sunil Jain of SJP, Ashish Arjun Gaikar’s AGFS and Ankit Chandiramani’s Sunshine Studios, will go on the floors by the end of the year at Alappuzha.
