Film, television and theatre actor Amit Mistry died of a heart attack at his home on Friday morning. He was 47. The actor had complained about chest pain shortly before his demise.
Mistry's manager Maharshi Desai told the Times of India newspaper, “I am in complete shock. He was well and was at home. He had never complained about any health issue. After breakfast he felt an ache in his heart and it was a heart attack and his family couldn’t even take him to the hospital. It is a big loss for the entertainment industry to lose an actor like him and I will miss working with him.”
The artiste’s friend and television producer Hemal Thakkar told Cinestaan that he was unaware about Mistry having a heart or health condition..
After a stint in Gujarati theatre, Mistry ventured into the world of Hindi television, appearing in popular shows such as Ssshhhh… Koi Hai and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. His first major film was Ek Chalis Ki Last Local (2007).
Mistry acted regularly in projects helmed by the filmmaker duo Raj and DK. After acting in their debut film 99 (2009), he also collaborated with them for Shor In The City (2011) and A Gentleman (2017).
His other prominent films include Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011), Singh Saab The Great (2013) and Bey Yaar (Gujarati, 2014). He also did more than 100 episodes for the TV show Saat Phero Ki Hera Pherie.
Mistry was last seen in the Amazon Prime Video web-series Bandish Bandits, which was premiered last year. He received acclaim for his take on his character, the protagonist's helpful uncle, with Cinestaan film critic Sonal Pandya also praising his performance.
The actor's colleagues, collaborators and admirers took to Twitter to offer their condolences.

Kuber (99), Tipu (SITC), Jignesh (A Gentleman), Prakhaand Pandit (current series)...in every script of ours, we subconsciously wrote a part for him. Heartbroken! Every time we write a script, he will be missed :( pic.twitter.com/derTGNtHPk
