The Telangana Theatre Owner Association has called for the shutdown of all cinema halls till next month to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state. The decision comes a day after the Telangana government directed theatre owners to adhere to night curfews.
According to the state government's directive, theatres must down their shutters by 8 pm every day. The state also mandated that COVID-appropriate behaviour be followed at all screenings and that violators of the safety protocols be prosecuted under Sections 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The decision comes as a major blow to several major upcoming Telugu projects such as the Rana Daggubati and Sai Pallavi-starrer Virataparvam and Nani's Tuck Jagadish, which have now been postponed.
It also puts the brakes on the growing box office success of Vakeel Saab, Pawan Kalyan's remake of Pink (2016), which collected close to Rs100 crore despite the pandemic. Incidentally, Pawan was himself diagnosed with COVID-19 last week.
