Bansuri trailer: The instrument holds a family together with a promise

Directed by Hari Viswanath, Bansuri is a drama about a fractured family.

Sonal Pandya

In Hari Viswanath’s debut Hindi feature Bansuri (2021), the flute becomes the key by which a family is bound together. The film stars Rituparna Sengupta, Anurag Kashyap and Upendra Limaye.

The trailer opens with a boy learning from his mother that his father (Kashyap) used to play the flute. As the boy gets immersed in his lessons, the trailer shows his mother, played by Sengupta, telling Kashyap that he can only return once he has learnt how to play the flute.

It seems then that there are certain truths hidden from the boy about his father’s past. Kashyap, at one point, laments that he is a labourer, not an artist, as he struggles to pick up the finer points of playing the flute from his teacher.

Meanwhile, Limaye plays a character who seems to have a connection with Sengupta’s character, indicating a certain unforgivable offence.

The drama hints that this fractured family will attempt to get back together through music. The feature film is due to be released in theatres on 16 April.
