The teaser for the Dev Adhikari-starrer period drama Golondaaj (2021), based on the life of the father of Indian football, Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, gives you a peek into what the film has to offer.
The teaser begins with Sarbadhikary's childhood when he was introduced to the game of football. The country was under the British rule and the freedom struggle was in its nascent stage. At that time Nagendra Prasad took up the challenge of playing the game against British soldiers and defeating them.
The first thing that grabs your attention is the rich production design. The film has recreated the bygone era accurately. The director seems to have done a lot of research to bring out the essence of the period the film is set in. Bengali cinema is not known to have big budgets at its disposal, which makes this feat even more praiseworthy.
The rousing background score heightens the drama and gives you a strong sense of patriotism. There isn't any video footage available of Sarbadhikary, so it's difficult to know how accurately Adhikari has portrayed this role, but the star looks impressive. Also, the film treats the protagonist like a larger-than-life hero, which suits Adhikari's fan base.
Golondaaj also features Anirban Bhattacharya, Ishaa Saha, Indrasis Roy and Srikanta Acharya in important roles. The film is scheduled to be released on 13 August. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
