Bombay high court restrains Kamaal R Khan from making defamatory remarks against Vashu Bhagnani

This is the third injunction against Twitter personality KRK. He has previously been ordered to stop making defamatory comments against Richa Chadha and Nikhil Dwivedi.

The Bombay high court on Thursday restrained actor and Twitter personality Kamaal R Khan from publishing, circulating or repeating defamatory tweets and making false and misleading allegations against producer Vashu Bhagnani, his family members, and his businesses.

Bhagnani had filed a defamation case seeking an order of injunction against the defamatory tweets and false allegations made by Khan on Twitter and his YouTube channel and sought Rs1 crore in damages.

Counsel for Bhagnani told the court that "it seems to be the modus operandi of the respondent [Khan] to target 'big banner films' at the time of their release with an aim to get easy and cheap publicity at the expense of others."

Bhagnani was represented in court by Ameet Naik ,Virendra Tulzapurkar, Rashmin Khandekar and Madhu Gadodia.

According to the legal news website BarandBench.com, after hearing the submissions for urgent relief, Justice AK Menon was of the view that the "tweets do not refer to the contents of the film and very clearly refer to the plaintiff himself and the effect that plaintiff has in 'Bollywood'. Several of these tweets are prima facie slanderous and actionable."

After granting the ad-interim injunction order in favour of Bhagnani, Justice Menon granted both parties time to file affidavits in reply and in rejoinder.

This is the third injunction against Khan, also known by his initials KRK, in recent months. He has previously been ordered by the court to refrain from making defamatory comments against actress Richa Chadha and producer Nikhil Dwivedi.
