Popular 'waste band' Sanjay Mondal and Group performed at the press conference for the upcoming film Tangra Blues (2021) last weekend. Directed by Supriyo Sen, the film is based on the journey of the waste band which went on to be the runner-up in the popular reality show India’s Got Talent in 2012.
Tangra Blues will feature Parambrata Chatterjee and Madhumita Sarkar together for the first time. Samiul Alam, Atmadeep Ghosh, Oishani Dey and Rishav Basu will also be playing crucial roles in the film that will focus on the music and gang-wars of the slum-dwellers of Kolkata.
“The street of Kolkata has a lot of raw talent and Tangra Blues is an effort to bring forward this spirit of the streets,” said the film's National award-winning director. “Tangra Blues will see music in a very different taste. My entire cast and crew have performed brilliantly. I am looking forward to what the audience thinks of the trailer and the film when it is released."
The teaser for the film already offered some glimpses of the unique music of the group. Nabarun Bose, known for his works in Rawkto Rawhoshyo (2020), Tiki Taka (2020) and other collaborative film projects, has added to the music of streets with his own compositions.
Lead actor and co-producer Parambrata Chatterjee is quite thrilled about the release of Tangra Blues and said the film had been made with a lot of love and hard work. “Supriyo sir has brought out the best in all of us," Chatterjee said. "For the first time, we are bringing out stories of the music of the streets in a film and I am glad that it has turned out well.” Chatterjee, an avid music enthusiast, once hosted the popular musical show Take A Break.
Tangra Blues is slated for a theatrical release on 15 April.
Correction, 10 April 2021: An earlier version of the report mentioned that the 'waste' band Sanjay Mondal and Group was the runner-up at India's Got Talent 2010. They actually made the grade in the 2012 edition of the reality show.
