Soumya Roy Choudhury’s short film Counting (2021) is the story of a curious boy who embarks on an exploration of a forbidden corner of his house.
Featuring Samontak Dyuti Maitra in the lead, Counting has been produced by Abs Infozon Pvt Ltd. The short film also features Subrat Dutta, Shweta Chakraborty, and Sourav Saha.
In the film, Subho (Maitra), a teenager, becomes curious as to what lies behind a door in his house that has been kept locked for years.
Whenever Subho expresses an interest in the mystery behind the door, he receives odd reactions from his family members. His father reprimands him the moment he asks why the door remains locked. His house guard scares him with his imagination while his sister adds to his fears by telling him about a death that took place behind the door some time in the past.
At the same time, Subho is continuously jeered by his classmates who call him a coward for not opening the door. Unable to deal with the bullying, he finally takes a cue from a photograph hidden in a cupboard by his father and decides to open the door one day.
The door leads him to uncharted corridors, rooms and furniture. Lost in exploration, Subho forgets that he needs to leave the room within a specific time. Will Subho find his way back after unearthing the mystery of the door? Will he get hold of some family secrets hidden behind the door? These are the questions the short film will answer.
