'Beyonce Sharma Jayegi', the latest song from Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday-starrer Khaali Peeli (2020), is a energetic dance number. The track has been crooned by Nakash Aziz and Neeti Mohan, written by Kumaar and Raj Shekhar and composed by popular music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar.
This is a typical item number and has a setting of a circus with background dancers dressing up as circus workers. But right off the bat, the song loses marks for its complete lack of creativity. It follows the same template that we have seen innumerable times before.
Almost every dance number produced in the Hindi cinema is following the same visual template. There is also nothing to rave about the sub-standard choreography by Bosco–Caesar. Though on some occasions, Ishaan Khatter impresses wth his locking and popping skills. He also looks more at ease pulling off the dance steps compared to Ananya Panday who tries to compensate for her lack of dancing skills with cute expressions.
The lyrics penned by Kumaar and Raj Shekhar are also quite unimaginative and on some occasions tone-deaf. The song's lyrics have been receiving flak on social media for its thinly veiled racism and rightly so. Vishal-Shekhar's tune is average at best but they compensate it with clever use of EDM (electronic dance music).
But it is the energetic singing by Nakash Aziz and Neeti Mohan that saves this song from being completely lacklustre. Both singers have done an amazing job and lift the energy of the song.
Khaali Peeli, directed by Maqbool Khan, marks the first collaboration of Khatter and Panday. Produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra, Ali Abbas Zafar, and Zee Studios, the film will release exclusively on Zee Plex on October 2.
