Just two days ahead of its release, the makers of Cargo (2020) have unveiled the trailer for the film starring Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi.
The trailer introduces Vikrant Massey as Prahastha, a rakshasa (demon in Hindu mythology) working at ‘Post-Death Transition Cargo', where all humans go after they die. Prahastha's role is to transform and prepare them for their next lives.
After spending a lifetime doing his job alone, Prahastha is joined by a new assistant Yuvishka Shekhar (Shweta Tripathi). Her arrival brings more drama to his life. Yuvishka is curious about her job and wonders what happens to people's stories when they die.
The film's trailer poses complex philosophical questions using humour and weird situations.
Cargo has been written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Arati Kadav and explores ancient Indian myths through the prism of science fiction, offering them new relevance.
The film played at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival last year and the SXSW festival earlier this year. It is slated for release on 9 September on Netflix.
