Anurag Kashyap summoned by Versova police in response to Payal Ghosh’s rape accusation

Earlier this week, the actress threatened to go on hunger strike if the filmmaker wasn't arrested.

The Mumbai police have summoned director Anurag Kashyap, asking him to appear at the Versova police station, where actress Payal Ghosh had filed a complaint accusing the filmmaker of rape, on Thursday.

The news agency Asian News International (ANI) tweeted on Wednesday that Kashyap was asked to be present at the police station at 11 am in connection with the alleged sexual assault case.

Ghosh accused Kashyap of trying to force himself on her while speaking to a Telugu news channel on 19 September. “He opened his zip and tried to force himself [on me]. He said, ‘All actresses who have worked with me are just a call away. Whenever I call them they just come running,’” she alleged.

Later that day, she took to Twitter to seek succour from the prime minister.

On September 23, Ghosh filed a police complaint against Kashyap, alleging rape, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of a woman. Kashyap and his lawyer rubbished the allegations.

Earlier this week, Ghosh threatened to go on a hunger strike if Kashyap was not arrested. Yesterday, she met Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale, who is also the chief of the Republican Party of India (RPI), to seek justice and Y category security.
