Critically acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who had struggled for years to get noticed as a performer, has said that he had waited 20 years to work with veteran filmmaker Sudhir Mishra.

Sharing his experience of finally collaborating with his idol in Netflix’s original film Serious Men, the actor said in an official statement that the director was like a guru to him. “Sudhir sir's excellence and willingness to deliver content [on the] basis [of] his vision is one of the qualities I truly appreciate. My experience of working with him has been the best,” the statement read.

Siddiqui was floored for the way Mishra praised him while shooting the film. “One day while we were shooting for Serious Men, he made a remark that he often feels [that] in spite of me being a part of the crowd, I never fail to stand out. I feel that this is one of the best compliments I have received throughout my career and I will cherish it for a lifetime,” the actor said.

Serious Men is based on a book of the same name by Manu Joseph. The film will start streaming on Netflix from 2 October.
