Sonu Sood receives UNDP award for humanitarian actions during pandemic


Actor now joins list of personalities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Actor Sonu Sood's actions amid the COVID-19 pandemic have earned him praise from across the world. The actor has now received the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Award from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for his contribution in helping migrants and the poor survive the lockdown. 

The actor was at the forefront of relief efforts during the crisis and has launched several initiatives to help feed the homeless and unemployed, as well as help migrant labourers and students find their way back home

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu took to Twitter to congratulate Sood on his latest achievement.

Chef Vikas Khanna, who was also involved in the efforts to help tide migrants over the lockdown, congratulated Sood as well. 

Meanwhile, Sood's peer, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, called the actor and humanitarian's work ''inspiring''. 

Accepting the award in a virtual programme, the actor said, "This is a rare honour. UN recognition is very special. I have done whatever little I have done, in my own humble way, for my fellow countrymen without any expectations. However, to be recognised and awarded feels good."

The award sees Sood join a list of prominent names of awardees such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Cate Blanchett and Chopra Jonas.
