Five popular Tamil filmmakers join hands for Amazon Prime’s Putham Pudhu Kaalai

Tamil filmmakers Gautham Menon, Suhasini Maniratnam, Sudha Kongara, Rajiv Menon and Karthik Subbaraj will create individual segments for Amazon Prime’s upcoming Tamil anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaali.
According to a statement by Amazon Prime, the shorts, which are set and filmed in the times of the COVID-19 lockdown, will feature stories of love, new beginnings, second chances and hope.
The film will premiere on Amazon Prime on October 16 and can be viewed in over 200 countries.
As per the statement, Kongara’s segment is titled Ilamai Idho Idho and it stars Jayaram, his son Kalidas, Urvashi and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Gautham’s short is titled Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum and it stars MS Bhaskar and Ritu Varma. Maniratnam has directed as well as starred in Coffee, Anyone? which also stars Anu Hasan and Shruti Haasan. Rajiv’s Reunion stars Andrea Jeremiah, Leela Samson and Sikkil Gurucharan. Subbaraj’s short is titled Miracle and it features Bobby Simha and Muthu Kumar.
Meanwhile, it was recently rumoured that Netflix is also coming up with a Tamil-based anthology show titled Navarasa, which is being bankrolled by Mani Ratnam, where nine filmmakers will helm individual segments.
Multiple reports have emerged that Navarasa could bring about the biggest casting coup in OTT history, and several actors such as Fahadh Faasil, Suriya and Vijay Sethupathi are said to have already agreed to be part of this prestigious project.
This project will mark the directorial debut of actors Arvind Swami and Siddharth, who will direct one episode each, apart from Kongara, Jayendra, Gautham, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren and KV Anand among others. It is not yet known if Ratnam will direct an episode.
Apparently, part of the income from the series will be given to workers of Tamil industry, who have been jobless over the past few months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
