Former professional wrestler-turned-Hollywood star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has revealed that he and his family have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which has triggered the COVID-19 pandemic.
The actor made the revelation in a short video that he released on Instagram. Johnson, his wife Lauren, and their two children all tested positive for the novel coronavirus and were quarantined at home.
He also said that they were now "on the other side" and no longer contagious and had "gotten through COVID-19 stronger and healthier".
In his video, the actor said ít came as a 'kick in the gut' to learn that his entire family had tested positive. "I wish it was only me that tested positive, but it wasn't, it was my entire family," he said.
The actor added that he had no idea where they had picked up the contagion from but the family had been 'disciplined' throughout its quarantine.
Johnson is simply the latest in an increasing line of Hollywood actors testing positive. Earlier, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, Debi Mazar and Olga Kurylenko were among those who had tested positive.
Johnson, who starred with Priyanka Chopra in Baywatch (2017), called the development one of the "most challenging and difficult things" for his family. "I've gone through some doozies in the past... but testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries or being evicted or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times." he said. "The reason why I feel like this has been different is because my No 1 priority is to always protect my family, protect my children, my loved ones."
The actor ended by sharing some suggestions to his fans online on preventing the spread of the virus and to follow directions by wearing masks and observing all the rules.
