Rajesh Tailang and Pooja Bedi are playing not-so-perfect parents in the upcoming Zee5 comedy Comedy Couple. Bedi plays Shweta Basu Prasad’s mother Zohra, while Tailang plays father to Saqib Saleem's character Deep.
Zohra is a modern mother who is constantly giving advice to her daughter Zoya, claiming to have a PhD in men. Tailang, Deep’s father, however, is humble with a conservative sense of humour, who is tired of his son’s lies.
As the promo below shows, they both bring drama to the lives of the young couple when they offer their unique take on the couple’s life decisions.

In a statement, Bedi revealed more about her character, “Parents have such a profound impact on how kids turn out! If you've liked the hilarious Deep and Zoya, it’s time for a double dose of laughter as you meet me, Zohra, Zoya's mom, a bohemian free-spirited soul who lives the life of a single mom, on her own terms!”
“Much to Zoya's amusement and bewilderment, Zohra seems to flaunt her PhD in men, having encountered many relationships in the past. The strangely independent-dependent mother-daughter relationship will be extremely relatable to a lot of girls out there,” she added.
Tailang, meanwhile, stated, “I want to start by saying that having to finish a film during a pandemic has been the most rewarding part of the shoot. I seldom play comic roles and the humour that Deep’s father portrays spoke to me instantly. The film is extremely relatable and it’s not only for kids or millennials, I think parents would enjoy it as well. Especially the camaraderie that Pooja and I share with Zoya and Deep respectively in the film.”
Deep and Zoya are a stand-up duo who also happen to be in love. After one of their acts goes viral, they must confront some hard truths to salvage their relationship.
Comedy Couple, directed by Nachiket Samant, is due to be premiered on 21 October on Zee5. Produced by Yoodlee Films, the feature is based on a story by Bikas Mishra, with a screenplay by Raghav Kakkar and Kashyap Kapoor.
