Hansal Mehta’s Hindi web-series Scam 1992 finally has a release date. The show will be streamed on the Sony LIV platform from 9 October.
Starring Pratik Gandhi, Sharib Hashmi and Shreya Dhanwanthary, the web-series is based on the life and activities of the late stock broker Harshad Mehta, who orchestrated in the early 1990s what was then India's biggest securities scandal.
The web-series is based on the book The Scam by journalists Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal.
Pratik Gandhi, who is mostly known for his work in Gujarati cinema, plays the role of the scamster who was known in the media as the Big Bull. Hashmi plays the whistle-blower who exposed Mehta’s Rs500 crore racket.
The teaser for the show, which was released in August, saw an anxious Hashmi sharing some information about a major stock market scam with journalist Sucheta Dalal (Dhanwanthary). The journalist is taken aback to learn that the man behind the scam is none other than the Big Bull.
The teaser also showed Mehta’s rise from Mumbai's chawls to a life of luxury. The footage also suggested that Scam 1992 might be filmmaker Mehta’s most mainstream work till date.
Interestingly, Kookie V Gulati’s The Big Bull (2020) is also based upon the life of Harshad Mehta. The film sees Abhishek Bachchan play the titular role.
Earlier this year, the web platform Ullu released a web-series titled The Bull Of Dalal Street, which was also based on the same stock market scam.
