Footfairy trailer: A dangerous game is afoot in this 'Sherlockian' thriller

A serial killer obsessed with women's feet feels like a story out of Ram Gopal Varma's production house, but the trailer for Footfairy goes down the lines of an older tradition of analytical thrillers. The film, featuring Gulshan Devaiah, Sagarika Ghatge and Kunal Roy Kapur, is set for release on 24 October on & Pictures.

The trailer is a tightly etched intro to the drama promised in Kanishk Verma's film. It begins with a pleasant jazz montage to the background of the sights and sounds of Mumbai. The only odd one out is the girl who is kidnapped by a faceless killer and has her legs chopped out from under her.

Enter Gulshan Devaiah's cop. The trailer carries the none too subtle image of 'CBI's own Sherlock' to point out that the cop is as obsessed with crime as the criminal. But unlke the fabled Sherlock Holmes, this cop trusts his instincts more than research. Soon, his doubts centre on Kunaal Roy Kapur's seemingly suspect behaviour. Whether Roy Kapur really is the culprit remains to be seen.

The trailer is sharply cut and has enough red herrings to throw you off. With the sharp edit, the trailer looks intriguing, but has some very expected character traits. Although visuals of the rainy city, a crime-obsessed cop, and the female victims feel a little familiar, the talent in the cast might add to the promise of the film.

Directed by Kanishk Varma, the film is produced by Nitin Upadhyay and co-produced by Anurag Bedi (business head at Zee Music Co) and Ruchir Tiwari (business head at & Pictures).

The film will be release on the & Pictures channel on 24 October.
