The inaugural Screenwriters Association (SWA) Awards ceremony took place online last evening. The awards honour writers and lyricists from the Hindi film, television and web industries.
The awards for Best Story and Best Screenplay were bagged by Anubhav Sinha and Gaurav Solanki for Article 15 (2019). Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, the film highlighted the extent of the caste system in rural India and was met with high acclaim for its content.
Vijay Maurya bagged the Best Dialogues award for the critically and commercially successful Gully Boy (2019), which starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Siddhant Chaturvedi and was directed by Zoya Akhtar.
Ivan Ayr and Kislay shared the trophy for Best Debut Writer for the hard-hitting cop drama Soni. The two were also bestowed with the Best Gender Sensitive Script award for the same film.
The Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari (2019) is known for its heart-wrenching song ‘Teri Mitti’. Manoj Muntashir, who wrote the song, won the Best Lyrics award.
Coming to the awards for web-series, Dhruv Narang, Nihit Bhave, Pooja Tolani and Varun Grover bagged the Best Adaptation award for Sacred Games (Season 2). The show was adapted from author Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name.
Devika Bhagat and Ishita Moitra were given the Best Original Comedy award for the web-series Four More Shots Please! (2019). Writers Richie Mehta and Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh bagged the Best Original Drama award for Delhi Crime.
The evening also saw television writers being honoured in various categories.
