Aparajita Adhya will play the lead role in Aritra Mukherjee’s upcoming film Fatafati (@021), produced by Windows Production House. The film, which deals with the issue of body shaming, will also feature Ambarish Bhattacharya as the protagonist’s husband. Fatafati has been conceptualised by Zinia Sen and the dialogues have been written by Samragnee Bandyopadhyay.
Mukherjee has previously directed Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti (2020), a film on gender equality and women empowerment. Fatafati, on the other hand, will see a plus-size woman challenge society’s beauty standards and go on to become a fashionista.
According to the director, Adhya was the makers' top choice right from the conceptual period. “One factor is that she fits the age of the woman described in the script. She has been through a similar journey where she had to hear a lot because of her body type. So, she knows the pain and thus portraying the character is easy for her,” said the director while speaking to The Telegraph, an English daily.
The film was announced on 17 September with the release of a poster, where a fashionable plus-size woman is seen flaunting herself on a magazine cover. The film will release on the International Women’s Day next year.
