Actress Richa Chadha has sent Anurag Kashyap's accuser Payal Ghosh a legal notice for 'unnecesarily' and 'falsely' dragging her into the controversy.

Ghosh had accused filmmaker Kashyap of sexual misconduct and named Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi as actresses Kashyap had mentioned while allegedly trying to force himself upon her back in 2014.

The director has dismissed the allegations.

Now, Chadha has sent a legal notice to Ghosh for dragging her name into the controversy.

A statement issued by Chadha's legal counsel, Saveena Bedi Sachar of Lawhive Associates, reads, 'Our client, Ms Richa Chadha, condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a defamatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties.

'Though our client believes that genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs, there are legislations that are intended to ensure that women have an equal standing in their workplace and to ensure that they have a cordial workplace in which their dignity and self-respect is protected.'

The statement added, 'No woman can be allowed to misuse their liberties to harass other women with unsubstantiated or non-existent, false and baseless allegations. Our client has initiated appropriate legal action and shall further pursue her legal rights and remedies in law as may be advised in her best interest.'

Chadha confirmed that a legal notice had been sent to Ghosh's legal representative and a hard copy was attempted to be delivered at the actress's place of residence. However, Ghosh or her representative reportedly refused to accept the notice.

Kashyap has received support from several co-workers in the film industry, including actresses Radhika Apte and Taapsee Pannu, lyricist Garima Obrah and producer Guneet Monga. His ex-wives, Aarti Bajaj and Kalki Koechlin, have also backed him to the hilt and vouched for his character.
