Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice to 'Daata Shakti De', a devotional number from the musical film Atkan Chatkan (2020), presented by AR Rahman. The song has been picturized on Lydian Nadhaswaram's Guddu, a child labourer who dreams of becoming a musician.
A defeated Guddu enters a temple, where a few children and a priest are offering prayers to the divine. Bachchan's signature baritone forms a perfect contrast to the chorus, which has been sung by children. 'Daata Shakti De' is a prayer to god asking for the strength to persevere amid life's adversities.
The song, composed by award-winning percussionist Sivamani, evokes a feeling of devotion, especially due to the chorus portion sung by children. The heavy influence of Indian classical music is evident from the choice of instruments used. The sitar especially stands out for its soothing notes.
Directed by Shiv Hare, Atkan Chatkan will be premiered on the Zee5 OTT platform on 5 September.
