Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Ayyan Mani explains his theory of prosperity to his pregnant wife Oja (Indira Tiwari) in the trailer of Netflix’s Serious Men. According to him, “Life mein kuch nahin karne ke liye char generation laga hai [It takes four generations to be able to do nothing at all]”.
Though he has buried himself in books and toiled, Ayyan, who is constantly belittled by his boss (Nasser), is of the view that only his grandson will enjoy the fruits of his labour. He, therefore, focuses his energies on educating his son Adi (Aakshath Das) to improve his lot.
His efforts seem to pay off when overnight, Adi is hailed as a boy genius like Albert Einstein. However, as the plaudits rain in and Ayyan’s hopes swell, a secret surfaces that could potentially destroy his golden future.
Serious Men, an adaptation of Manu Joseph’s 2010 novel, is directed by Sudhir Mishra. This is Siddiqui’s third project with Netflix after Sacred Games and Raat Akeli Hai (2020).
The film is written by Bhavesh Mandalia and also stars Shweta Basu Prasad and Sanjay Narvekar. Serious Men will be streamed on Netflix from 2 October.
