Hope I have done justice to Tagore’s ‘Ekla Chalo Re': Kshitij Tarey on SoulSathi

Directed by Abir Sengupta, the short film stars Adah Sharma.

Rabindranath Tagore’s classic poem ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ has been recreated quite a few times not just in Bengali but Hindi as well. A notable one was by Sonu Nigam in Shyam Benegal’s Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005). Few years ago, Amitabh Bachchan also paid tribute to the poetry in his own way with a single.

Now, composer Kshitij Tarey has brought out another version of ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ in Abir Sengupta’s short film SoulSathi, which stars Adah Sharma. Some English lyrics are peppered onto the lyrics and the new version has been sung by Sumedha Karmahe. Tarey has also composed the background music for the short.

Tarey has spoken about the song and his recent single ‘Fan Ho Gaya’ in an official statement. “‘Fan Ho Gaya’ has been received very well by music lovers and we are thrilled with the response. This kind of appreciation only instils me with more of a drive to create better music,” he said.

About his experience of giving a spin to Tagore’s poetry, he added, “In the case of SoulSathi, wonderfully directed by dear friend Abir Sengupta, it was an honour to work on Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic track ‘Ekla Chalo Re’ and I hope I have done justice to it."

"Apart from SoulSathi, there are three more web series projects lined up this year on leading OTT platforms," he revealed.

SoulSathi was released on Eros Now on 14 September.
