Taapsee Pannu is known for voicing her opinions on social issues. The actress has also never shied away from expressing her political opinions. On International Day of Democracy, she shared videos in Hindi as well as in Punjabi, addressing a variety of social issues and emphasizing the role of dialogue in saving democracy.
The videos open with a woman lighting candles in front of India Gate in New Delhi. Sharing the animated videos, which have been voiced by her, Pannu wrote on Instagram: "To the largest democracy of the world, let's make sure we preserve our 'rights' and perform the 'duties'."
The videos begin with her voice-over. "We have laid the foundations of a new India and we will succeed if we keep having dialogues. We set out in search of science, but it is sad that we are stuck in blind faith. There was supposed to be no unemployment in new India, then why did everyone change gears once elections got over? The Constitution says we are all equals, then why are we divided on the basis of caste and religion? No one will sleep hungry and everyone will have a house — that’s a fine thought, but we first need to eradicate fears from hearts... We taught the world that everyone is family, why can’t we follow the same?... Let us make such a beginning that will start new journeys and make it successful with dialogues."
Kireet Khurana has directed the video and Triparna Maiti has done the animation direction. Apart from Hindi and Punjabi, the video has been created in English, Marathi and Bengali as well, with Tisca Chopra, Amruta Subhash and Anindita Bose, respectively, doing the voice-overs.
Pannu was one of the few actresses from the Hindi film industry to call out the media for its biased reporting of the Rhea Chakraborty case. The actress is currently preparing for her role as an athlete in Rashmi Rocket. The shooting for the film will resume in November.
