A judicial magistrate's court in Tumkuru, Karnataka, has directed the police to register a first information report (FIR) against actress Kangana Ranaut for her comments on the farmers' agitation roiling parts of the country.
The magistrate issued the order on a complaint made by an advocate, Ramesh Naik, on 21 September.
According to the legal news website barandbench.com, the order by judge Vinod Balnaik directed the police to file a complaint under section 156(3).
The complaint by Naik was in connection with Ranaut's social media team tweeting the following post on her Twitter handle on 21 September.
People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformations about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation 🙂 https://t.co/oAnBTX0Drb

The complainant contended that Ranaut's statement could lead to a 'collision between people belonging to different groups believing in different ideologies'.
The complainant added that posting such content would cause 'incalculable and irreparable' damage to the farmers of the country.
He requested the court to take cognizance of the matter and direct a local police station to file a complaint. The court acceded to the request and directed the Kyathasandra police station to lodge an FIR.
