Renowned Marathi actor Avinash Kharshikar, 68, died of a heart attack at his residence in Thane, Maharashtra, on Thursday morning. He had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment.
Veteran actress Renuka Shahane paid tribute to the actor on Twitter.

Kharshikar made his debut in the Marathi movie Bayko Asavi Ashi (1983), which was the first of a series of mainstream family entertainers such as Maficha Sakshidaar (1986), Bandiwan Mi Ya Sansari (1988), Lapwa Chhapavi (1989), Ghayaal (1993), Maza Chhakula (1994) and Maherchi Pahuni (1999). He often appeared with Marathi cinema legends such as Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde.
Kharshikar also appeared in a few Hindi films such as Chamatkar (1992), Parwane (1993) and Kanoon (1994).
Kharshikar was also a renowned theatre actor who left his mark in plays such as Zopi Gelela Jaga Jhala, Shyam, Vasuchi Sasu, Lafda Sadan, Saujanyachi Aishitaishi and Apradh Mich Kela. Some of his television works include Nasti Aafat, Bhikaji Rao Karodpati and Andar Bahar.
