Actress Payal Ghosh told the Bombay high court today that she would issue an apology and retract a statement naming Richa Chadha in connection with her complaint alleging sexual misconduct by fimmaker Anurag Kashyap.
Chadha had filed a defamation suit against Ghosh seeking Rs1.1 crore in damages for making baseless allegations against her.
Hearing the suit, the high court asked Ghosh's representative, advocate Nitin Satpute, if his client would apologize and withdraw her statement. After a brief intermission, Satpute affirmed that Ghosh would do so. The court directed both sides to connect and finalize the agreement.
Chadha had sent Ghosh a legal notice on 22 September for making 'baseless allegations', including dragging her name into Ghosh's allegation of sexual misconduct by Kashyap.
Kashyap, who has denied all allegations, was interrogated by the Mumbai police on 1 October. Meanwhile, following up on her notice, Chadha filed a defamation suit against Ghosh. The others named in her suit are actor-turned-Twitter personality Kamaal R Khan and a Telugu news channel for spreading libellous content.
According to the legal news website BarandBench.com, Kamaal R Khan's representatives told the court he would not share or add any content pertaining to Chadha till Monday. The court also ordered a temporary injunction against the news channel in the matter and listed the matter for settlement on 12 October.
