A special NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) court extended the custody of actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik, to 20 October. The actress and her brother have been accused of dealing and procuring drugs for the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

This is the second time that the duo's custody has been extended by the court, following a similar order back on 22 September. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has alleged that Chakraborty is 'an active member of a drug syndicate.'

Rhea and Showik were arrested on 4 September. Twenty-five days later, the duo filed a bail plea in the Bombay high court, after the special court had rejected their bail pleas. The high court has reserved its decision on the plea. The petition had claimed that the actress had only procured drugs for then-boyfriend, Rajput, and did not take part in the consumption.

Rajput was found dead in his apartment on 14 June. While the Mumbai police termed it death by suicide, Rajput's family alleged a murder conspiracy. On 3 October, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) panel in charge of Rajput's autopsy concurred with the Mumbai police's finding and ruled out any conspiracy of murder.
