Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who was experiencing a mild fever for two days, was admitted to a private nursing home this morning after testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
According to a report in The Times of India newspaper, the 85-year-old actor's daughter Poulami Bose confirmed that he is stable now and his temperature has come down.
After the Bombay high court granted permission to all artistes above the age of 65 to work in the entertainment sector, Chatterjee began shooting for Parambrata Chatterjee's Abhijaan (2020), a biopic of the actor in which he plays himself.
Chatterjee, then, also worked on the sets of Shyamal Basu's Somoy and was recently shooting for a web-series by Sandip Sarkar as well.
On returning to work despite the specific threat the novel coronavirus poses to older people, Chatterjee had remarked that the disease would be around for a while and he did not have the privilege of spending days at home without working.
Artistes have wished Chatterjee a speedy recovery. Director and producer Raj Chakraborty lauded his fighting spirit and said he was praying for him.
You've always been a fighter and you'll fight this through. Get well soon, sir. Praying for your speedy recovery. #SoumitraChatterjee pic.twitter.com/lOwDw5XRVR
