Chalte Chalte (1976) actor Vishal Anand dies after a prolonged illness


The veteran actor and filmmaker, a nephew of Dev Anand, died on Sunday 4 October.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Vishal Anand, best known for his work in Chalte Chalte (1976), died yesterday after a prolonged illness. Born Bhisham Kohli, he was the nephew of actor-filmmaker Dev Anand, cousin of filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and uncle of actor Purab Kohli.

Vishal Anand made his debut with Hamara Adhikar (1970) and later acted in films like Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa (1972), Taxi Driver (1973), Intezaar (1973) and Hindustan Ki Kasam (1973).

Chalte Chalte, directed by Sunder Dar, was also produced by him, under his real name. The thriller, co-starring Simi Garewal, Nazneen and Shreeram Lagoo, was known for its music by Bappi Lahiri, especially the title track sung by Kishore Kumar.

Vishal Anand also directed the films Dilsey Miley Dil (1978), Kismat (1980), Maine Jeena Seekh Liya (1982) and Aakheer (2002) as Bhisham Kohli.
