Mani Ratnam, Rahman unveil trailer for Amazon Prime anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai


The shorts will be 'first-of-their-kind' stories of love, new beginnings, second chances and a glimmer of hope, set and filmed in the times of the COVID-19 lockdown, according to the platform.

The trailer for Amazon Prime’s upcoming Tamil anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai was unveiled today by filmmaker Mani Ratnam and composer AR Rahman.

Tamil filmmakers Gautham Vasudev Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Sudha Kongara, Rajiv Menon and Karthik Subbaraj have come together to helm five short films for the anthology.

According to a statement released by Amazon Prime Video, the shorts will be first-of-their-kind stories of love, new beginnings, second chances and a glimmer of hope, set and filmed in the times of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The film will be premiered on the Amazon Prime OTT platform on 16 October and can be viewed in over 200 countries. The trailer, unveiled jointly by Rahman and Mani Ratnam, gives a quick glimpse of all the shorts and the artistes featuring in them.

According to the statement, Sudha Kongara’s segment is titled Ilamai Idho Idho and stars Jayaram, his son Kalidas, Urvashi and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Gautham Menon’s short is titled Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum and stars MS Bhaskar and Ritu Varma.

Suhasini Mani Ratnam has directed as well as starred in Coffee, Anyone? which also stars Anu Haasan and Shruti Haasan. Rajiv Menon’s Reunion stars Andrea Jeremiah, Leela Samson and Sikkhil Gurucharan. Karthik Subbaraj’s short is titled Miracle and features Bobby Simhaa and Muthu Kumar. 

Karthik Subbaraj has revealed that his short is inspired from a robbery that actually took place in Bobby Simhaa’s office.
