Maayakumari song 'Bhalobese Eto Jwala Jodi': Speaks of the pangs of pain in passionate love

The song, composed in the style of a kirtan by Bickram Ghosh, is rendered soulfully by Iman Chakraborty.

The song 'Bhalobese Eto Jwala Jodi' from Arindam Sil’s upcoming film Maayakumari speaks of the pain that comes with passionate love. Composed by Bickram Ghosh in the style of a kirtan, the song has been soulfully rendered by Iman Chakraborty.

'Bhalobese Eto Jwala Jodi' features Rituparna Sengupta as Maya Kumari, legendary actress of the 1940s, with her co-star Kanan Kumar, played by Abir Chatterjee. The film, celebrating the centenary year of Bengali cinema, traces the journey of Maya Kumari, who left the silver screen suddenly at the peak of her career.

In the visuals, she can be seen singing the song with Kanan Kumar by her side, enjoying the rendition with rapt attention. There are also glimpses of the two romancing blissfully. In other visuals, Maya Kumari is seen with her husband Shital Bhattacharya, played by Rajatava Dutta.

In the film, Abir Chatterjee also plays Ahir, grandson of Kanan Kumar. The song features him in a romantic union with Arunima Ghosh, juxtaposing the time of his grandfather with the present.

The song depicts Maya Kumari’s journey of love, in different phases of her life. It also establishes the eternal charm of love through the ages, feeling as appropriate to Maya Kumari and Kanan Kumar’s story as it does to Ahir’s.

However, except for Kanan Kumar’s stylized hairdo, it is hard to tell that the song leaps across time. Neither the ambience nor Sengupta’s costumes bear much resemblance to the 1940s. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
