Gippy Grewal announces film on anti-Sikh riots

Widow colony will focus on the devastating impact of the pogroms on the wives of the deceased.

Actor and singer Gippy Grewal announced a Punjabi film on the 198 anti-Sikh riots, Widow Colony, shooting for which is to begin in 2021.

The actor took to Twitter to share the news with his fans. The poster was accompanied by a line mentioning the fateful year in which women lost their husbands and their lives and dreams were shattered.

The title of the film refers to the locality Tilak Vihar in New Delhi, also known as Widow Colony, where the government provided shelter to families ravaged by the carnage that accompanied the pogrom, which has been depicted in numerous Punjabi films.

This film seems to focus on the plight of women and their tragedy.

Widow colony is written and directed by Smeep Kang, who has collaborated frequently with Grewal. Some of the films that they have worked together on include the immensely successful film Carry on Jatta (2012) and Carry on Jatta 2 (2018). While it is not clear whether Grewal will be acting in the upcoming film, it is being produced by him.
