Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli have joined Ishaan Khatter in the cast of Raja Krishna Menon’s Pippa. The movie is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films.
Thakur has been seen in films such as Love Sonia (2018) and Super 30 (2019) while Painyuli has acted in the film Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018) and the recently released second season of the web-series Mirzapur.
Expressing happiness with the casting, Menon said in an official statement, “With Mrunal and Priyanshu joining Ishaan, we have three of the most exciting young actors coming together. Personally, I’m very excited to work with such extraordinary young talent and look forward to the energy they bring to Pippa.”
Pippa will tell the story of war veteran Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, who played a role in India’s victory in the 1971 war against Pakistan. The film is based on his book The Burning Chaffees. Khatter plays the role of Mehta while Thakur and Painyuli have been cast as his siblings.
Speaking about the film, Screwvala added, “Pippa is a story that chronicles an Indian victory in 1971 through the eyes of the Mehta family, and signing on fine actors to essay the members of this brave family was our foremost priority. I’m glad we have talented actors like Mrunal and Priyanshu on board, who along with Ishaan will spearhead this story of triumph that needs to be told.”
Pippa will see veteran actress Soni Razdan play the matriarch of the family.
Kapur said that with Thakur, Painyuli and Razdan on board, the filmmakers had achieved more than what they had set out to do with the casting.
Pippa will be released in theatres late next year.
