The trailer and promotional material for the Zee Studios comic drama Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari only said the film would be released this Diwali. The producers have not said whether the film will be released in theatres or will go to an OTT (over-the-top) platform.
Clarifying the position, director Abhishek Sharma said the team would like the film to be released in theatres but is waiting for some developments.
“We are all waiting for theatres in Maharashtra and Punjab to reopen," he explained. "People are keenly waiting for this. It’s important for theatres in these two states to reopen as they are big on Hindi cinema. And it is very important for our film to be released in these two states.”
Sharma said talks are going on between the producers and exhibitors. “Not just Zee Studios but all producers are currently in talks with theatres and multiplexes for the terms," the filmmaker said. "That is up to them to figure out and they will do that. But the most important thing is that theatres should reopen in Maharashtra and Punjab."
Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari stars Manoj Bajpayee, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Diljit Dosanjh.
