The trailer of Sauvik Kundu’s upcoming film Switzerland shows what happens when everyday people of humble means harbour ambitious dreams. Starring Abir Chatterjee and Rukmini Maitra, the film promises humour as well as moments that keep the audience on the edge of its seat.

Shibu (Chatterjee) and Rumi (Maitra), a content middle-class couple, and their daughters Diya and Riya lead a mundane life. As they introduce themselves and their daily routine, they assure us that their lives are no different than ours. Like many middle-income Bengali families, they struggle to save money, despite both partners holding jobs and rarely travelling outside their home state.

Their life, however, turns upside down when Shibu abruptly decides to fulfil Rumi’s dream of going on a trip to Switzerland. Initially, the announcement attracts overwhelming reactions from family and friends. While some of Rumi’s friends plan to celebrate the announcement itself, Shibu begins to receive special treatment from his in-laws for the being the first member of the family to dare to plan a trip to Europe.

Shibu’s decision to cut down on food, shopping and power expenses are quite relatable as well. However, he's in for a rude shock when he realises that his hard-earned savings barely cover the cost of a Switzerland trip.

The trailer then hints at how Shibu’s desperation to live up to the expectations of his kin and fulfil his family’s long-nurtured dream bring out unexplored shades of his character. An undaunted Shibu ends up in a series of sticky situations, Rumi earnestly prays for her family’s safety.
